Marjorie A. Gutman, Ph.D. leads a consulting firm and serves as co-director of the Substance Abuse Policy Research Program and principal investigator on evaluation projects through her firm or as an affiliate of the Treatment Research Institute at the University of Pennsylvania, where she holds an adjunct faculty position. The consulting firm, Gutman Research Associates, specializes in developing and reviewing programs, designing and conducting evaluations for health philanthropies, government agencies, universities, and community-based organizations. Dr. Gutman’s current work is built on 25 years experience in university, philanthropy and other organizational settings developing, guiding and evaluating prevention programs designed for children and youth at higher than average risk for unhealthy behaviors, as well as multi-component service programs for low income families. Dr. Gutman gained this expertise and experience as director of prevention research at the Treatment Research Institute, University of Pennsylvania; senior program officer at The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation; and through positions at the New Jersey State Department of Health, and Health Sciences Center at Brooklyn, SUNY. She has served on several major commissions including recently the Philadelphia Mayor’s Blue Ribbon Commission on Child Behavioral Health, and the United Way Task Force on Impact. Dr. Gutman received a doctorate in philosophy (applied social psychology) from New York University, and a Bachelor’s degree from the University of California at Berkeley.
