Dr. Michael Cummings is the Chair of the Department of Health Behavior at Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo, New York. He is a graduate of Miami University (Ohio) and holds a Master’s degree and Ph.D. in Health Education and Health Behavior from the School of Public Health at the University of Michigan. His 28 year research career in tobacco control covers a wide range of topics from product evaluation to population health.  He has published over 260 scientific papers and has served as a contributor to Surgeon General’s reports on Smoking and Health and various Tobacco and Health monographs produced by the National Cancer Institute, the International Agency for Research on Cancer, and the Institute of Medicine.  In the late 1990’s helped lead the effort to digitize and index millions of tobacco industry documents and has published several papers based his document research.  He currently directs the operations of the New York State Smoker’s Quit Line and an NIH-sponsored international research center evaluating the impact of tobacco control policies implemented as part of the World Health Organization’s Framework Convention on Tobacco Control.  This past year Dr. Cummings received the prestigious Luther L. Terry Award from the American Cancer Society for his career achievements in tobacco control research.
